To qualify as a regular student in the MSc program in Computer Science, the candidate must meet the following conditions:

• Hold a B.Sc. degree in computer science or another relevant degree, all degrees having been successful with an average of at least 3,0/4,3, or equivalent, or certify training deemed equivalent;

• Have successfully completed a minimum of 40 credits of university courses, or equivalent, in computer science and mathematics, including the following courses (or their equivalents):
  • MAT1400 Calcul 1;
  • MAT1600 Algèbre linéaire 1;
  • MAT1978 Probabilités et statistique;
  • IFT1015 Programmation 1
  • IFT2015 Structures de données;
  • IFT2125 Introduction à l’algorithmique;

  
  The Department may, if not, impose additional courses;

• Knowledge of the Python programming language is an advantage for some courses.
• Have sufficient knowledge of the French language, attested as required and on request, by passing the TFI test (International French Test) with a mark of at least 605/990.

It is not required to have a research supervisor before submitting your application. The educational regulations of the FESP stipulate that you have until the end of your first term of schooling to find a research director to supervise you during your masters studies.

Attention: if you want to be supervised by a professor from Mila, you must find your supervisor before being accepted into the program "maîtrise avec mémoire", by following the application process described here. Even though it is in theory possible to find a supervisor at Mila after the beginning of your maîtrise, it is in practice extremely rare.

DIRO's Graduate Studies Committee must have obtained all the required documents and your application for admission in order to analyze your application and give a positive or negative decision to this application for admission to the program.

You will receive an email from the Université de Montréal with the Notice of Decision. This Notice is your official letter giving you the positive or negative decision to your admission into the program. This Notice allows you to request your CAQ and Study Permit from the Immigration Department.

You will have 30 working days to accept the positive admission offer in your Student Center - Synchro.

If you are accepted into the program and you decide not to come to the program at the Université de Montréal, you must notify the TGDE of the program by e-mail of your withdrawal.

If you have to delay your admission to the program in the chosen trimester, you must postpone the admission quarter by following the procedure in another section.
We strongly recommend that you pay the application fee (CAD$ 96.50) online using a credit card. If you do not have one, use that of a family member or relative. Please note that the request will not be sent until the payment is settled.

Apply to defer your admission for the Fall 2022 term if you are forced to cancel your studies due to a force majeure event.

You will be able to complete the new "ADM_Report_Trim_Admission_A22" form in your Student Center. Applications will be analyzed by the faculties on a case-by-case basis. Once your application has been processed, your faculty will notify you of the decision.

International students can apply for deferral of admission until September 21th, 2022.

This form is only available to graduate students admitted in Fall 2022 under certain conditions described below:

• International students who have submitted their CAQ application but did not receive it in time for the start of the term.
• Regular students with certain chronic health condition(s) or immunosuppression likely to cause severe complications if infected with COVID-19.
• Regular students with another acceptable reason after verification with the responsible unit (e.g. pregnancy).

IMPORTANT: As an international student, you will only have one chance to defer the Fall 2022 term.

A foreign student must apply for admission to a full-time program unless he or she holds a different type of permit than a student (work or tourist) permit to be a free student for a maximum of 8 credits.

As a foreign student, for starting in fall, the application for online admission must be completed before February 1st of each year; if you wish to begin in winter, you must apply for admission before September 1 of the previous year.

A period of 3 to 6 months is required to obtain the UdeM's decision, the Québec Certificate of Acceptance (CAQ) and the study permit and the visa, if required.

If you have not completed your program at the time of your application, you can send your most recent transcripts for the study of your file. If you are admitted, you will have a conditional admission to show to the FESP a proof of your graduation (with transcripts and cumulative grade point average) at the beginning of the term (original or certified official document).

If your studies have not been completed in French and you are admitted, the Graduate Program Committee will decide, after the complete study of your file, whether or not to pass the test of International French (TFI). If so, the UdeM will contact you so that, before you arrive in Montréal, you can pass the TFI test with an average of 785/990 or else pass the DALF or TEF with a C1 level based on the proficiency levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR). The DALF B2 is not accepted because this average does not equal our requirements.
